Follow the Rose (2024)
for solo voice, chorus (SSAATTBB), and piano
“Follow the Rose” was composed for vocalist Syd West, a dear friend and incredible trans musician / baritone vocalist who commissioned the piece. We collaborated on the creation of the lyrics while ideating a project that explores transness in the concert space. I hold this song close to my heart, as it was written during the early stages of my own transition as a transfem person. It was premiered with me as the soloist at my senior recital on March 30, 2024, and then performed by Syd at OutFront Kalamazoo’s Trans Day of Visibility Concert on April 6. Given the context of the work, I ask that it only be programed for performances with trans soloists–thank you!
